ED'S TOO SHORT
Producer: Jah Paul Jo & Rasta Li-Mon
ED'S TOO SHORT mixes gut-wrenching lyrics, silvery-string strumming acoustic guitars and a fine guest harmonica appearance by Stan Ridgway. Singer/songwriter/guitarist, Marcos Alves, filters it all thru his Brazilian heritage (can you hear the castanets?) and calls it LOUD FOLK... |

Review: "These boys have th'potential to start 'nother 60's revo-movement... high-quality lyrical style, & a DRIVEN playing that just DEMANDS to be played LOUD!"
It's what Dylan meant when he strapped on his faithful Fender Tele for the groundbreaking New York Folk Festival: folk with an attitude - Prose and raw power... ELECTRIC HOOTENANNY!
Mainman, singer, songwriter & guitarist, Marcos Alves (rhymes with Elvis... get it?), mixes gut-wrenching lyrics, silvery-string strumming acoustic guitars with as much power and punch as heard on any "Seattle-Sound," screamin' Diz-Band; filters it all thru his Brazilian heritage (can you hear the castanets?); calls it LOUD FOLK.
Oh yeah... by day Alves works at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA. Like Skully & Moulder of the X-Files, keeping both feet on the ground while watching the skies.
And they say it doesn't take a rocket scientist...
"Planting Seeds," a five-song EP released in early 1995, was ED'S TOO SHORT's introduction to the world. And indeed, it did. The CD garnered fine reviews, and on its strength landed the band an opening spot on the Dread Zeppelin (!) US tour. ED'S TOO SHORT continue to tour and sporadically show up on the LA live circuit. Most recently the band were picked as a finalist in the Hard-Rock Cafe sponsored, Grammy Award Competition (although not winning a Grammy themselves - a minor oversight).
But, like all folk music before it, the main focus is on the material... and ED'S TOO SHORT have no lack of the quality stuff. In fact, as their fans will attest, Alves incredibly prolific songwriting insures that no two ED'S TOO SHORT performances are ever the same.
Like the aforementioned Mr. Zimmerman (Dylan), ED'S TOO SHORT are not afraid to take risks. Theirs' is a new sound... the self-described LOUD FOLK. "If I Had A Hammer" for the GEN X'ers. Let's all raise our voice in song...
