THE FORCE Force's First*THE FORCE Force's First (Line Records Germany 1984) Recorded in 1982, The Force was a German-only release featuring Sean Tyla of Ducks Deluxe and The Tyla Gang and Deke Leonard of the great MAN band. From The Man Web Site: Back in the UK it was ex-Help Yourself roadie and Ducks Deluxe frontman Sean Tyla who kept Deke occupied with a stint in another shortlived project 'The Force', together with Micky Groome on bass and drummer Paul Simmons. An album - entitled 'Force's First' was recorded and released in Germany and also featured Terry Williams and Martin Ace on two tracks. The band collapsed spectacularly in 1982 when Sean Tyla suffered an onstage panic attack at Dingwalls in Camden. Says Deke; "We'd done the album, and in the middle of the set Sean shuffled up to me and whispered in my ear, 'I'm just going off, I'm gonna have a nervous breakdown!' So I laughed, but then I saw he was serious. Off he went behind the stage so we went on as a three-piece...When we got backstage Sean was a real mess, said he couldn't face it any more and as far as I know that's the last gig he ever did."

File Under: Pub Rock - Keyword: Ducks Deluxe, Man - Price: $9.99

GRAHAM CHAPMAN A Six Pack Of Lies*GRAHAM CHAPMAN A Six Pack Of Lies (Verbatim 1997) A Six Pack of Lies, a lovely little recording of a talk Monty Python founder, Graham Chapman, gave at Georgia Tech shortly before his death to throat cancer in 1989. Must have for fans of Chapman's or the great Monty Python!

File Under: Comedy - Keyword: Monty Python - Price: $9.99

INTERNATIONAL BEAT Their Most Explosive Hits*INTERNATIONAL BEAT Their Most Explosive Hits (Dressed To Kill 1998) UK ska Two-Tone style. For fans of ENGLISH BEAT, The Specials, Madness and The Selector. Formed in 1990 by ex-English Beat members Everett Morgan and Saxa and featuring Ranking Roger as well at selected shows. Tony Beet is the guitarist/vocalist and songwriter for the band.

File Under: Ska - Keyword: English Beat, Two Tone - Price: $4.99

IRON MONKEY Our Problem*IRON MONKEY Our Problem (Earache 1999) A really amazing slice of Heavy doom sludge - riff after riff of Sabbath inspired savagery playing the likes of Eyehategod, Grief and Acid Bath. This album is packed to bursting point with powerful groove laden riffs overlayed with ripping vocals that will tear you in half. Rumors abounded that Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo was listening to Iron Monkey when he overdosed on heroin in 1996. As a result of the buzz and infamy around the recording, live shows, and associated rumors, Iron Monkey was picked up by the metal giant Earache in 1997 and released the epic and disturbing Our Problem in 1998.

File Under: Metal - Keyword: Pantera - Price: $12.99

JOHN PHILLIPS Pay Pack & Follow*JOHN PHILLIPS Pay Pack & Follow (Eagle 2001) The legendary John Phillips of the Mamas & The Papas along with Keith Richard, Mick Jagger, Ron Wood, Mick Taylor & Chris Spedding. The John Phillips/Keith Richards "collaboration" is finally here. I thought it would be more how shall we say skagged out but we're dealing with Papa John here; his songwriting talent, production, singing and playing are all in order. Keith too, and Jagger in the background, and all else who dropped in to play. Kind of a mixed bag; bluesy songs, an MOR song or two, but they're all first rate. Weird to hear Keith solo on songs not in the Stones style. Phillips's vocals sometimes sound like Keith of "You Got the Silver." Old-timers like me will probably treasure this CD. Reminiscent of "Exile" and "Sticky Fingers." I highly recommend this more than a curiosity. 4.5 stars. Thanks, Papa John, and rest in peace.

File Under: Classic Rock - Keyword: Mamas & The Papas, Rolling Stones - Price: $4.99

MARVIN ETZIONI Bone*MARVIN ETZIONI Bone (Restless 1992) Marvin Etzioni first made his mark as bassist and songwriter in the mid-'80s for the L.A. cowpunk band Lone Justice. Etzioni, whose material ranges from stark folk-based tunes to raw, Stones-like rockers, sprinkles his songs with bits of mandolin, accordion, harmonium, hurdy-gurdy, and violin as well as plenty of drums and electric guitar. Being a purist as well as a fan of vinyl, Marvin masters his records from analog to vinyl to digital (you can actually hear the needle drop and the tone arm go up on the CD). His credits also include producing and writing for such artists as Victoria Williams, Peter Case, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and the Williams Brothers, has continued to buck current trends, and record and release records on his own terms.

File Under: Rock - Keyword: Lone Justice Price: $7.99

THE MISSION Ever After - Live*THE MISSION Ever After - Live (Receiver 2000) Great live album! Recorded on the band's 1999 'Resurrection' tour. 16 tracks including some of the goth rock innovators biggest hits including, 'Butterfly On A Wheel' and 'Deliverance'. Digitally remastered. 6 page full color booklet. Extended liner notes.

File Under: Gothic - Price: $4.99

NIK KERSHAW 15 Minutes*NIK KERSHAW 15 Minutes (Eagle UK 1998) Self-delusion, existential angst, the nature of fame and the value of family love; it's all here, mate, and it's done - cripes - with passion and a poignant turn of phrase. Heavily autobiographical, these are rock-pop numbers in the Crowded House/Elvis Costello mode.

File Under: Hard Pop - Keyword: Crowded House - Price: $4.99

PITCHSHIFTER Deviant*PITCHSHIFTER Deviant (MCA 2000) Beats as hard as Helmet, riffs as catchy as Nirvana, noise straight from the Bomb Squad school of headache....A brilliantly conceived, thrillingly executed album. A significant leap forward....this is a corrosive, sloganeering assault, which actually makes assets of drum'n'bass...and aging punk icon Jello Biafra....offering heavy thrills with minimum fuss.

File Under: Metal - Keyword: Jello Biafra - Price: $9.99

POPA WU Visions Of The Tenth Chamber*POPA WU Visions Of The Tenth Chamber (404 Music Group 2000) Former members of The Wu-Tang Clan featuring Popa Wu, Method Man, Old Dirty Bastard (ODB) and RZA.

File Under: Rap - Keyword: Wu-Tang Clan - Price: $7.99

PROJECTIONS Between Here & Now*PROJECTIONS Between Here & Now (Guidance Records 2002) Deep House and Acid Jazz from LA duo Simon James and Danny Hastie. Their hip hop sensibilities contribute to the album, nurtured from a past spent playing in reggae-funk bands Orgone, Sounds From The Ward and Loa Rhythm and supporting and touring with Pharcyde and Styles of Beyond.

File Under: Deep House/Acid Jazz - Price: $4.99

SPYLAB This Utopia*SPYLAB This Utopia (Guidance Records 2002) This Utopia, is the groundbreaking debut album from live Glasgow based electronic outfit, SPYLAB. This Utopia is a cerebral and cinematic exercise in electronic counter culture that walks the thin blue line between the moodiness of Massive Attack and the technological acumen of Orbital, Moby and Meat Beat Manifesto.

File Under: Deep House - Price: $7.99

STEWART COPELAND Silent Fall*STEWART COPELAND Silent Fall (Morgan Creek 1995) Original Motion Picture Soundtrack composed by Stewart Copeland (The Police). "Healing" is performed by Wynonna Judd and Michael English.

File Under: Soundtrack - Keyword: The Police - Price: $7.99

SUGAR File Under Easy Listening*SUGAR File Under Easy Listening (Rykodisc 1994) Given Bob Mould's reputation for searing electric rock & roll, it may be easy to think that the title is ironic, and it is to a certain extent. But beneath the loud guitars lay the friendliest, most relaxed pop songs Mould has ever written. "Your Favorite Thing" and "Can't Help You Anymore" are two of Mould's most direct, pop-oriented songs, driven by instantly memorable melodies and hooks; they are also the most conventional songs on the record, but the record's finest moment is "Gee Angel," a powerhouse melodic scorcher.

File Under: Grunge - Keyword: Husker Du - Price: $4.99

TIN MACHINE II*TIN MACHINE II (Victory Music 1991) Even in a career defined by its detours and departures, it nevertheless raised eyebrows when David Bowie formed Tin Machine in 1989, briefly forgoing his long and successful solo career to work within the confines of a band. Featuring guitarist Reeves Gabrels and the sibling rhythm section of Tony and Hunt Sales -- the sons of legendary television comic Soupy Sales -- the group was ostensibly assembled to allow Bowie the opportunity to return to his roots, touring small clubs and collaborating in what he asserted was a truly democratic creative partnership.

File Under: Alternative - Keyword: David Bowie - Price: $4.99

IRON MONKEY Our Problem*TWENTIETH CENTURY BLUES: The Songs Of NOEL COWARD (Ichiban 1998) Twentieth-Century Blues: The Songs of Noel Coward pays tribute to one of the 20th century's finest songwriters, with performances by contemporary and classic British artists, including Vic Reeves, Space, Sting, and Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman. Texas and the Divine Comedy provide entertaining but slightly misguided updates on "Parisian Pierrot" and "I've Been to a Marvelous Party," which respectively try to fuse trip-hop and Hi-NRG dance rhythms to Coward's literate lyrics. The Pet Shop Boys' air-conditioned, synth-pop version of "Sail Away" fares better, as does Suede's glam, moody rendition of "Poor Little Rich Girl." Marianne Faithfull's sardonic "Mad About the Boy," Bryan Ferry's "I'll See You Again," and Elton John's version of the title track are among the other high points of this well-intentioned tribute, which also features Paul McCartney's ultra-traditional cover of "A Room With a View." In all, Twentieth-Century Blues is an enjoyable homage to Noel Coward.

File Under: Rock - Keyword: Paul McCartney, Sting - Price: $7.99

XYLON Mooncafe*XYLON Mooncafe (Cleopatra 1995) XYLON present such a feeling of self-transcendence and freedom. The freedom to lift up and fly away. Wow! I am an avid fan of electronic music, particularly upbeat trance. I have plenty of Hypnotic's compilations and artist albums such as Aqualite and Astralasia. I love the psychedelic (GOA) trance scene, but have been looking for the perfect chill-out trance album. Need some peace of mind? This is your answer.

File Under: Chill-Out Trance - Keyword: Goa - Price: $9.99
